Session Update - January 2015

Wed, 01/07/2015 - 13:23 -- George Robertson

Last night was the first meeting of the New Year for the elders of Knox.  It was a productive night in our planning and preparation for the 2015 year of ministry.

The elders have set the date of Sunday, February 1st for the ordination of Lisa Proctor and the admission of Lisa, George Wilkinson, Betty Porterfield and Jim Hill as Session Elders.   All four will be present at both services on this Sunday so you can meet them and give them your encouragement and support as they begin this new calling of God to serve us as elders in our church family.

Let's Hurry to Bethlehem

Wed, 12/05/2012 - 11:52 -- George Robertson

Luke 2: 15, 16 tells us that the shepherds after hearing the message of the angel and the song of the heavenly host in the sky made haste to go to Bethlehem to see the great thing that had come to pass.  This past Sunday morning at Knox we had Lucas Matter followed by Jacob and Cody Jamieson as shepherds make their way around the sanctuary from the fields to the stable to see God's promise of good news of great joy for all people of a Saviour, Jesus Christ, Emmanuel - God with us.

A Caroling We Go!

Wed, 12/05/2012 - 11:29 -- George Robertson

This past Saturday evening we had 30+ Knox folks on the corner of Church and Mill singing out the fun songs and the Christian carols of Christmas.  Between 7:15 and 8:00 pm a steady procession of caroling groups from the community joined us in song.  Our singing filled the air of the neighbourhood and left, I believe, a strong and positive impression on all who heard us.  As I walked home Saturday evening around 8:30 pm I had a family stop me on Main St. and tell me how much they had appreciated walking by our church corner and hearing the Christmas sounds.

Fri, 11/30/2012 - 10:43 -- George Robertson

Saturday night will be the 1ST CANDLELIGHT AND CHORAL WALK in Waterdown.  Be a part of hsitory and a part of the Knox Family Singers as the community stops and joins in with us to sing carols by candlelight at Mill and Church.

The Friendly Beasts

Wed, 11/28/2012 - 15:25 -- George Robertson

We don't often think of BEASTS being friendly.  The biblical picture of God's Kingdom of Peace is one where the animals will indeed be friendly with each other.  God's Peace - SHALOM - is more than the absence of conflict.  Shalom is God's gift of setting right and healing the brokeness of our lives and of creation.  People will love each other.  Shalom will flow deep and wide, embracing all of creation, including plants, animals, the whole earth.  Isaiah 11.

Live the Trinity

Thu, 10/18/2012 - 13:08 -- George Robertson

'Praise is Rising' is a song we will be singing at our 9 am service on Sunday.  I already feel the Spirit of God beginning to rise up within me as I anticipate singing it.  Sunday is coming and I'm excited at the prospect of what we will be experiencing of God's presence in our midst as we gather at 9 and 11 am.

Our 9 am service will have the celebration of the sacrament of baptism as we give thanks to our promise making/promise keeping God for Kylie Rose, infant daughter of Cody and Hillary Jamieson.

Here we go again

Tue, 09/25/2012 - 10:38 -- George Robertson

Last week it was announced to great fanfare in the media the discovery of an ancient Coptic papyrus suggesting Jesus had a wife.  Karen King, a professor at Harvard Divinity School, said, "We still have some work to do, testing the ink and so on and so forth, but what is exciting about this fragment is that it's the first case we have of Christians claiming that Jesus had a wife."  There was one headline - Mr. and Mrs. Jesus Christ.  As the week went on it became clear the fragment is a forgery.

An Amazing Worship Conference at Redeemer

Sat, 09/22/2012 - 19:30 -- George Robertson

Six of us from Knox were privileged to be a part of the 2012 Worship Conference today at Redeemer University College.

Hundreds of people lifted songs of adoration, confession and thanksgiving to our gracious and good God.  Brian Doerksen, a Canadian song writer and worship leader/equipper, sang and spoke in a humble and moving way of worship as our surrender to God and our receiving of God's provisions for our lives.
